The Perseus-300 system for restricting the use of mobile communication devices in prisons is a distributed intelligent reactive targeted jamming system.

The system has a modular structure. Each module is a targeted jammer and solves the problem of blocking in the sector assigned to it.

The blocking signal is generated based on the results of measurements of the levels of useful signals in the protected area.

The blocking signal power is set for each active channel depending on the measured level. The internal structure of the blocking signal is similar to the structure of the wanted signal (modulation type, information bit stream, etc.). The blocking signal is generated for each standard separately.

The levels of active base stations are measured and the blocking signal is updated accordingly at least 1000 times per second.

Sleep mode

When a subscriber terminal is detected in the protected area going on air, blocking is activated automatically for a certain time interval. After this interval has expired, the device checks whether the handset is still on air, and if so, it turns on the blocking again for a certain time. And so on until the handset stops trying to establish a connection.

With such a system design, the flux density of electromagnetic energy from the antennas must satisfy sanitary and hygienic standards in the area where people are located.

All system modules are combined into a local network via a radio channel with an RS-485 interface (EIA/TIA-485). Protection against mismatch (SWR) is provided. If there is a mismatch, the power is automatically turned off.

Each time the complex is turned on (power supply), a complete self-diagnosis of the complex’s performance is performed independently on each channel.

If there is a need to block new standards or frequency ranges, the complex can be supplemented with new modules.

To manage the system, an automated workstation (AWS) is created for each facility (prison) consisting of a personal computer, special software (SPO) and the necessary set of interfaces and converters. Management at the facility is carried out via a local radio network via the RS-485 interface (EIA/TIA-485).

Open source software allows you to access each of the channels of any of the complexes and perform the following actions:

  • Enable/disable blocking
  • Reconfigure blocking parameters in case of significant changes in the radio environment (significant changes in the power of base stations, the emergence of new active channels, etc.)
  • Receive information about the current state of the channel:
    — blocking is on or off;
    — blocking signal power level, temperature;
    — state according to SWR;
    — if the intelligent mode is implemented, then receive information about attempts to establish communication in the protected area;
  • Receive information about the results of self-diagnosis and carry out full diagnostics during operation

Each module of the complex is visually displayed on the site plan at the place of its installation and its current state is highlighted in a certain color. When complexes are supplemented with new modules, corresponding changes are made to the software without changing the overall structure of the system. The design of high-frequency modules, their external elements and connections meets the requirements of IP 66. The design of connections, wires and cables must be protected from the influence of insects, fungi and mold.
